There is an entry for Betteshanger [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/TR3152/betteshanger/] [accessed 14 October 2020] but it mentions neither cleric nor a church in it. Glynne writes: "The font is a small modern Gothic one". There may have been a new font introduced synce Glynne's time, a tub with a rounded underbowl and five short columns, a Victorian version of a 13th-century font. ]NB: the fabric of the church goes back to Norman times, but we have no information on the earlier font(s)]
