Mackenzie (1825), in his remarks on the "late improvements" (a term he uses with implied criticism) carried out at St. John Lee's church, notes: "a new font has been substituted for the ancient finely ornamented one, which, it is said, is now converted into a swine's trough at Hexham". [NB: we have no information on the whereabouts of that old font]
