The National Gazetteer of 1868 notes: "The church, dedicated to St. Paul, was built by Lord Crewe's trustees in 1833", but does not mention a font. Wilson (1870) mentions a font on the north side of the west end of the nave. The font probably dates of the consecration of church itself, 1833.
