Wilson (1870) notes that of the little church in which it is said the Earl of Surrey and his army pledged to conquer James IV of Scotland [1473-1513], there was "little left of the fabric" by his time, the chancel arch apparently "the sole ancient fragment". Wilson (ibid.) mentions a font in this church, given by Mr. William Gray, of East Bolton, recently. Pevsner (1957) mentions a neo-Norman "fully carved font" dating from the 1869 renovation of the original Norman church. [NB: we have no information on the original font]
