Wilson (1870) notes that Ostredus, vicar of this ancient and interresting church, goes back to the reign of Henry I (1100-1135) and mentions a font that "stands on the ancient steps in the centre of the nave at the west end". Noted in Pevsner (1957): "Circular bowl on pillar with three shafts." The font is illustrated in [http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2878562290055761717fDfvAf] [accessed 18 January 2010]. It consists of a roughly hemispherical basin with a large roll moulding at the upper rim, resting on a broad central shaft and three outer colonnettes, all round and plain; the lower base is also round and plain. It is not clear whether this an ancient font now heavily re-tooled or a new font following an old design. It is mounted on a three-step plinth at the end of the nave. The wooden cover is an octagonal pyramid with decorated sides and crocketed ribs, probably Victorian.
