There is no individual entry for this Doddington in the Domesday survey. Wilson (1870) writes: "The font has the date 1723 carved upon it." Pevsner (1957) writes: "Circular, dated 1723, but in fact Norman, that is using a Norman font-bowl with cable-moulding and shallow arcading." The English Heritage entry [Listing NGR: NT9957232233] (1986) notes: "Re-cut Norman font with capitals of columns to former blind arcading." The Church of England site [www.achurchnearyou.com/doddington-st-mary-st-michael/ [accessed 20 January 2010] notes that the present church was "Built on the site of a twelfth century church, the present church building has undergone various alterations – not least the reversal of the interior axis, so that the chancel is in the west and the baptistry in the east."
