Mackenzie & Ross (1834) note: The ancient chapel of Denton having become much dilapidated, it was taken down, and the present building erected in 1810, probably with the old materials"; a font is noted on the south wall, opposite the pulpit. Fordyce (1857) notes that the chancel of the chapel at Denton had been "ruinated several years" by 1700, and that the building was taken down and re-built in 1810 and enlarged in 1836. Fordyce (ibid.) describes a font inside, near the altar table, "a neat circular basin, on an elegantly formed pedestal". [NB: not known whether the font was introduced new at the time of the re-building, or if there was an earlier font in the old chapel -- in 2006 the church had been deconsecrated and advertised for sale as a private dwelling -- whereabouts of the font not known to BSI] [NB: sale details: "Saint Mary Church House a magnificent contemporary conversion of this former church to create an outstanding three bedroomed home.
