Cox (1875) writes: "Under the western gallery is a handsome modern font of marble, in the Italian style, a memorial to a lady of the neighbourhood. We inquired after its predecessor, but, from what we could gather, it was of the basin order, and had no claims to antiquity." [NB: the original church goes back to medieval times, but we have no information on the earlier font(s)]
