There is an entry for Wingerworth [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SK3867/wingerworth/] [accessed 2 March 2018], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Cox (1875) writes: "The font at the west end of the church is of an octagon shape, and stands upo a pedestal. It is quite out of keeping with the rest of the church, and it must, from the very great similarity of execution, have been the work of the same chisel which supplied the neighbouring church of North Winfield with the one now in use. This one is undated, but that at North Winfield has inscribed upon it the year 1660." [cf. Index entry for Wingerworth No. 1 for the earlier font of this church]
