Scene Description: Source caption: "The Remains of Holy Trinity Chapel. This chapel dating from around 1500 is now all but lost in the undergrowth but it once served a scattered but vibrant congregation drawn from the surrounding area. It had already fallen into disuse when it was replaced by the Victorian church in Brackenfield in 1856 but not before a chancel screen and two oak chairs were removed to the new site. This picture shows the empty bell turret above the western gable, a blocked up mullioned window and the remains of the porch."

Scene Description: Source caption: "Interior of the Derelict Holy Trinity Chapel. From this photo it's hard to imagine that centuries ago, a scattered but vibrant congregation would have regularly gathered at this isolated spot overlooking the Amber valley. The chapel dates from around 1500 but it had already fallen into disuse when it was superseded by the Victorian church in Brackenfield in 1856. This picture shows the main east-facing window staring out across the valley, two south-facing windows (one blocked) and the remains of a porch complete with seating which can be seen behind the iron gate. Note also the piscina in the wall to the left of the east window."

No individual entry found for Brackenfield in the Domesday survey. In his entry for Brackenfield, Cox (1875) writes: "The font, which stands near the entrance, is, as might be expected, a modern contrivance of stone on a fluted column; for Trinity Chapel, so long as it was merely a chapel of ease to Morton, possessed neither the right of baptism or sepulture." The DerbyshireUK website [http://www.derbyshireuk.net/brackenfield_church.html] [accessed 11 January 2010] notes that a chapel of ease dedicated to the Trinity was built circa 1500 near the present mid-19th century Church of the Holy Cross. The chapel is in ruins now. Cox claim [cf. supra] that the chapel of ease had no sacramental rights may have not stopped it from having a font and even exercising those rights at some point, as many of these chapels of ease did.
