There are two entries for Hillesden [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SP6828/hillesden/] [accessed 15 January 2016], neither of which mentions cleric or church in it. Sheahan (1862) notes a plain font in this church [but he names the church as St. Nicholas']. The Victoria County History (Buckingham, vol. 4 (1927) notes: "The church of Hillesden was granted to Nutley Abbey before 1164 by Walter Giffard and Ermengard his wife [...] The present building is a very fine and complete example of the style of the late 15th century, having been rebuilt, with the exception of the tower, shortly after the year 1493 [...] The church which it replaced was probably a 12th-century cruciform building [...] The font is circular and stands upon an octagonal stem of later date than the bowl, which is of the 13th-century; the oak cover is of the 17th century."
