One of the mini-fonts, also called portable fonts; miniature-sized fonts of conventional design; this one consists of a plain octagonal basin with chamfered upper rim, raised on a splaying stem of the same shape. It stand on a tall wooden support on the south side of the nave, by the organ. [NB: the original church. located 1-2 km outside the village is thought to have been the one noted in the Domesday survey of 1086; the register of baptisms starts in 1607, according to the Victoria County History (York East Riding, vol. 7, 2002). [NB: we have no information on its early font].
