INFORMATION

Church / Chapel Name: Parish Church of St. Nicholas
Font Location in Church: Inside the church, at the W end, N side
Church Patron Saint(s): St. Nicholas of Myra
Site Location: East Riding of Yorkshire, Yorkshire and the Humber, England, United Kingdom
Directions to Site: Located 3 km NE of Patrington
Additional Comments: altered font?
Font Notes:
Baptismal font of simple design: octagonal basin plain but for a moulding at the lower end; raised on a plain octagonal stem that may be a replacement; moulded splaying lower base; the upper rim of the basin shows two repairs of insert stone at opposite ends, which would be consistent with the removal of old cover staples and make the font older than it looks; the neat top and carving of the inner well of the basin appear modern. Is this a re-cut font from another church? [NB: the present church was built in 1814]
