There is an entry for Lesnewth [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SX1390/lesnewth/] [accessed 4 November 2014], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. A quadrangular basin now [2008] stands by the baptismal font in use inside the church; it appears to be of rectagular shape but very irregular, with tapering sides decorated with trumpet scallops projecting downwards, a common enough motif found on Norman fonts in the south of England.
