Octagonal basin raised on a cluster of thin colonnettes; cross and charged shield [one has a cardinal's emblem] decoration on the sides; The [stone?] cover with insciption recording the donation [of the font as well?] to 1908, although unfounded local claims state an early origin and the legend that its gold decoration was tstripped off the font by Sir Francis Drake [not much love lost for the English pirates to be found on this island].
