Reported in Parker (1855) as a baptismal font of the Perpendicular period, "much mutilated and modernized". Knott (2007?) notes: " Mortlock tells us that the font cover is the work of Frederick Gibberd, famous as the designer of the Catholic Cathedral in Liverpool".
