There is an entry for this Bentley [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [www.domesdaybook.co.uk/suffolk1.html] [accessed 15 December 2014]; it reports a church in it. Parker (1855) notes: "The base of the font is early, the bowl, P[erpendicular], with angels in the panels of the bowl; one panel contains the Virgin and Saviour". English Heritage [Listing NGR: TM1186038142] (1955) reports: "Probably C15 octagonal font, panelled with carved virgin and child, angels with shields, 2 flowers and interlocked eternity rings. Octagonal stem, symbols of the 4 Evangelists at angles alternating with buttresses with moulded capitals and bases. Square base." Noted in Leach (1975) as a font made of Purbeck marble, Polygonal I Type (Octagonal): "disused" [source given: Pevsner] [NB: does Leach entry refer to the base of the font?]
