There are four entries for Swefling [variant spellings] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/TM3463/swefling/] [accessed 2 June 2024], one of which reports "1 church. 0.12 church lands" in it. Parker (1855) notes: "Font, early; an octagonal bowl, with slightly sunk panels; it has been removed from its original position, and put within the arch of the piscina." Listed in Leach (1975) as a font made of Purbeck marble. Listed in Leach (1975) as a font made of Purbeck marble. The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: TM3473463849] notes: " Parish church. Medieval; restored 1832 and late C19 [...] C13 Purbeck marble font bowl on modern base". Described and illustrated in Knott (2009): "The font is made of grey Purbeck marble. It's an off-the-peg job of the 13th century, with curved arches all around. I think it is an attractive example, despite the modern shaft. The font at nearby Farnham is a 19th century copy of this style."
