Font Notes:
There are six entries for Monewden [variant spellings] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/TM2358/monewden/] [accessed 2 July 2020], one of which, lorded and tenanted in 1086 by Roger of Poitou, reports "1 church. 0.25 church lands" in it. Parker (1855) writes: "Font, D[ecorated], an octagon, with shields in square panels". Illustrated in Knott (2008). The blank shields 'hang' from a rosette inside each of the panels of the basin sides; moulded underbowl chamfer; trefoiled windows on the sides of the octagonal stem; octagonal plinth. The wooden cover, octagonal, flat and plain, is modern. The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: TM2389558532] notes: "Church. Some Cll or C12 fragments. C.1300 with C15 additions. [...] Octagonal font with suspended shields in the recessed panels of the bowl. Octagonal stem with blind tracery."
