Illustrated in a sepia wash drawing of May 1841 by John Chessell Buckler, now in the William Salt Library. The Staffordshire Arts & Museum Service page [http://www.search.staffspasttrack.org.uk/engine/resource/default.asp?resource=3179] [accessed 24 October 2009] states that "the font dates from 1669". The font consists of a quadrangular basin with slightly rounded tapering sides on a squat moulded base of the same quadrangular shape; the panels of the basin are sunk but blank, a human figure at each corner; the lower base is splayed, with several mouldings. It does not appear Norman, but has a somewhat 'old flavour' about it, despite the faint-pink granite in which it is carved.
