Noted in Parker (1855): "The font is late and poor." Illustrated in Knott (2003, 2007), who points out the wooden cover by Ninian Comper. The present font, surely not the same font described in that Parker, is octagonal, with the symbols of the Evangelists alternating with other motifs on the basin sides, floral motifs on the underbowl, and traceried and moulded sides on the base; on a two-step modern plinth; this font is probably late-19th century, so unlikely to have beens seen by Parker. The font cover is tall, but very open, the lower half eight slender shafts resting on the upper rim of the font, the upper a very airy set of slender ribs converging at the top. [NB: a church is known to have existed here since the Conquest [1066], but we have no information of a medieval font from it].
