Described in Parker (1855): "Font, P[erpendicular], an octagon with panelled bowl". Illustrated in Knott (2009). The font consists of an octagonal basin decorated with deeply-carved panels on seven of the sides (hanging shield, two (?) demi-angels holding shields, two (?) floral motifs, etc.); the eighth side is blank, uncarved, on both the basin and the pedestal base, which must indicate that the font was originally intended to go against the wall or a pillar; the underbowl is decorated with eight cherubs at the angles, their wings spreading on the chamfered sides; the octagonal pedestal base has floral motifs and hanging shields on the sides, the angles prominent with nuttresses; plain splaying lower base, also octagonal. The wooden font cover is octagonal and flat, of two thin volumes, with a twisted-metal ring-handle; modern. The uncarved side of the basin has an insert-stone repair at the upper rim, the area probably damaged by the old cover anchors.
