Noted in Parker (1855): "Font, an octagon, with good panelling on bowl." Noted and illustrated in Knott (2006): "The medieval font survives, and bears a triumphant (although recut) angel bearing a shield of the Instruments of the Passion. The wild men are super, and the smiling lions are reminiscent of those you often find on Norfolk fonts of this type." The font consists of an octagonal basin with deeply-carved panels, the four symbols of the Evangelists alternating with angel demi-figures holding shields charged with emblems of England, the Trinity and the Instruments of the Passion, cherubs at the angles of the underbowl and flowers on the panels below; the square pedestal base appears totally modern, but incorporates the combination of sejant lions at the corners with woodwooses on the sides; the latter are moderate versions of the usually ferocious-looking wild men, and even their clubs resemble French baguettes rather than the more threatening versions we see in the original ones; the basin itself has been drastically re-carved. The font stands on a good two-step octagonal plinth with kneeling extension; the font has a flat octagonal wooden cover with a metal cross finial; it is modern.
