Noted in Moule (1837): "the ancient font is worthy of the observation of the antiquary". Described in Cox (1912): "Large octagonal font, late 14th cent., has quatrefoil in each panel, an embattled edge, and also quatrefoils round base." Guilford (1927.) dates to the 14th century. In Pevsner & Williamson (1979): "Octagonal, C15, with quatrefoils and battlements." Described and illustrated in the Parish web pages [http://www.trowellchurch.com/history-trowell-don.php] [accessed 13 October 2009]: "The font is a large 14th century octagonal font with a quatrefoil in each panel, an embattled edge and also quatrefoils around the base." The font is located at the west end of the nave.
