The Victoria County History (Wiltshire. Vol. 11, 1980) notes: "The bishop of Winchester confirmed the right of St. Swithun's Priory to present rectors to Ham church in 1172. [...] Both nave and chancel appear to be of 13th-century construction [...] The church was restored in 1896–7 and again in 1970." There is no mention of a font in the VCH entry for this parish. The present baptismal font consists of an octagonal basin with mouldings at the upper and lower ends, and a plain chamfered underbowl, raised on a plain octagonal stem, an octagonal-to-square lower base and a square plinth. The wooden cover is octagonal and flat, painted with the IHS acronym and the text from Hebr X:23: "Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering".
