Noted in Guilford (1927) and in Pevsner & Williamson (1979) as a baptismal font of the 13th century. Beeson (2004) refers to Reynolds Hole's "graphic account of church life at Caunton during the late 1830s", which notes: "The font, which was never used for baptism, was filled with coffin ropes, brimstone matches and candle ends."
