There is an entry for Hadley [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SJ6712/hadley/] [accessed 10 July 2015], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. The Victoria County History (Shropshire, vol. 11, 1985) notes: "In the 14th century Hadley manor house had a private chapel. William the chaplain of Hadley was mentioned in 1349. [...] In 1856 a chapel of ease was completed and consecrated on a site at Hadley given by Miss Ellen Thorneycroft. [...] The chapel was licensed for baptisms and burials in 1856 and for marriages in 1858." The present font in the new 1856 church is modern, of greyish marble; it consists of an octagonal basin raised on a broad central shaft and eight slender colonnettes; on a square lower base. [NB: we have no information on an earlier font here].
