In a presentation recorded in the proceedings of the British Archaeological Association and reported in its Journal (March 7, 1850), Mr. Lott informed that "while excavating for the foundation of the new entrance to the Mansion House (on the west side), a font of a plain character, Norman or Early English, was found […] broken into several pieces." These pieces were collected and offered to the City Museum at Guildhall. The note further informs that "On this spot stood the church of St. Mary Woolchurch, destroyed by the dire of 1666, and never rebuilt; the parish being united with St. Mary Woolnorth [sic] in Lombard-street. It is very probable the font discovered belonged to this church." [NB: the Mansion House is the officvial residence of the Lord Mayor of London,
