There are two entries for Henstridge [variant spellings] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/ST7219/henstridge/] [accessed 18 April 2018], neither of which mentions cleric or church in it. Kelly's Directory of 1883 notes: "the old font, in the Perpendicular style, has been restored, and placed under the tower, which is constituted a baptistery". The entry for this parish in the Victoria County History (Somerset, vol. 7, 1999) notes: "When the church was given in the 1170s to form a prebend at Wells Cathedral there was already a rector. [...] A vicar had been appointed by 1276 [...] The church of ST. NICHOLAS, dedicated to St. Michael by 1294 and until the late 18th century [...] Preserved from the medieval building are a 15th-century blocked doorway in the north aisle, the font". Not mentioned in Pevsner (1958). The octagonal font, probably re-tooled, is mostly plain but has mouldings at the underbowl, stem and lower base. It stands on a modern octagonal plinth.
