The Victoria County History (Wiltshire, vol. 11, 1980) notes: "In the 12th century there were churches at East Overton, Fyfield, and Alton Priors. [...] The parish church of St. Michael and All Angels [...] was built in a mixture of gothic styles between 1877 and 1883 to designs by C. E. Ponting and replaced the medieval church which had become dilapidated." There is no mention of a font in this church in the VCH entry. The present baptismal font in the Perpendicular style, consisting of an octagonal basin with vertical sides decorated with large quatrefoils, the underbowl graded; raised on a short and plain stem and a moulded lower base, both octagonal as well. On a modern two-step plinth. So does the cover: flat octagonal wooden platform with gilded metalwork topped by a cross finial.
