There is an entry for Elworth [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/ST0834/elworthy/] [accessed 6 March 2018], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. The netry for this parish in gthe Victoria County History (Somerset, vol. 5, 1985) notes: "A church was mentioned in 1233 [...] The church of ST. MARTIN was so dedicated by 1531 [...] The nave, which retains a lancet at the west end of the north wall, and the tower date from the 13th century, and the porch and the nave roof from the late 15th century [...] The alabaster font is of the mid 17th century, evidently from Watchet." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: ST0828934964] reports a "Mid C17 alabaster font" in it. The Exmoor National Park [http://www.exmoor-nationalpark.gov.uk/index/looking_after/living_in_communities/churches/elworthy_churches.htm] [accessed 18 September 2009] notes: "The 19th century font is made from alab[a]ster from the cliffs at Watchet and is similar to one at Williton". The National Monuments Record, English Heritage [http://www.imagesofengland.org.uk/details/default.aspx?id=264761] [accessed 18 September 2009], however, notes: "Mid C17 alabaster font" [NB: we have no information on the earlier font(s) from this medieval church]
