There is an entry for Kingsbury [Episcopi] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/ST4321/kingsbury-episcopi/] [accessed 13 June 2019] but it mentions no church in it; it does record that the lord in 1066 was the bishop of Wells (St Andrew), and that in 1086 a cleric and three 'men-at-arms' were added to them as lords. The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: ST4364721090] notes: "Anglican parish church. C14, C15, C19 restoration. [...] Re-cut octagonal C14 font, large late C19 tester." Not mentioned in Pevsner (1958). [ NB: we have no information on the details of the re-carving of this font -- we found two pictorial references to this font: 1)the one on Cornish Churches shows an octagonal font plain but for some mouldings on the stam and lower base; 2)an illustration in Pinterest that shows an octagonal basin decorated with quatrefoiled panels that enclose a number of motifs and symbols (shield, floral or foliage, etc.), a concave underbowl with round arches that continue down the length of the octagonal shaft, and a moulded lower base. The wooden cover is octagonal pyramidal with crocketed arrises and carved sides; fleuron finial -- ***not able to sort out at this point which is the correct one***]
