There is an entry for Brompton [Regis] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SS9531/brompton-regis/] [accessed 5 March 2018]; it does not mention a church, but the lords in 1086 include a priest. The National Monuments Record, English Heritage [Listing NGR: SS9513931488] reports a "C19 font" in this church. The parish web site entry [http://www.bromptonregis.com/church.html] [accessed 5 March 2018] written by Roger Steer and Rev Walter Speakman, however, appears to indicate that the present font is actually an altered version of their medieval font: "In 1885, the south transept and chancel were completely rebuilt on their old foundations in the ‘Decorated’ style, as before. Also, at this time, the 14th century font was heavily re-cut". [NB: we have no information on the original font of the medieval church]
