There is an entry fro Milton [Clevedon] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/ST6637/milton-clevedon/] [accessed 12 April 2018], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. The entry for this parish in the Victoria County History (Somerset, vol. 7, 1999) notes: "There was a church at Milton by the 12th century […] The church of St. James, so dedicated by 1545 […] The 18th-century font now in the south transept was replaced in the 19th century first by a barber's basin and later by the present font." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: ST6645637788] reports an "elaborate font with cover" introduced at the time of the 19th-century restoration of the building. [NB: we have no information on the early font of this church]
