Wadmore (1897) writes: "The font, of Early English work, was rescued from the Churchyard by the Rev J. W. Hardman, and restored to its place." A footnote to this text, however, reports: "It has since been presented to S. Katharine's, Pylle, Knowle, Bristol." The later font of this church is described also in Wadmore (ibid.): "At the North-west corner of the Nave upon a marble pavement, is the Font, of Caen stone, standing on three steps. It is of cup shape, richly carved and surmounted by an elaborate oaken cover, suspended from an iron bracket, and raised or lowered at will." [NB: J. W. Hardman was the incumbent at this church ca. 1862, so the font would have been moved between that date of the publication of the book in 1897]. [NB: we have no information on the font of the original 12th-century (?) church -- the Churchcrawler web site [www.churchcrawler.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/pmdraper10/bristol1.htm] [accessed 27 September 2011] informs: "Jul 6, 2009 ... St Katherine, Pylle Hill, TOTTERDOWN. 1889, converted to a mosque in 1960. Replaced by current building c1980, with minaret and onion ... -- we have no up-to-date information on the whereabouts of the font from Barrow Gurney].
