There is a single entry for "Walpola" in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/XX0000/walpole-st-andrew-and-st-peter/] [accessed 29 November 2013], and it mentions neither church nor cleric in it. Blomefield (1805-1810) writes; "St. Andrew's Church: this is a regular, well built church consisting of a nave, a north and south isle, a chancel, with a south porch, all covered with lead. At the west end is a square steeple, with 4 bells. [...] In 1229, Alexander was rector, when it appears that he had a vicar under him. Ralph"; the latter note, referred to in regards a dispute on tithes, appears to indicate that there may have been earlier vicars here, but 1229 is the only firm date related to the age of the church of St. Andrew. The present font is described in Pevsner & Wilson (1999): "Per[endicular], octagonal, with quatrefoils and shields." Noted and illustrated in Knott (2005). The basin has blank shields in pointed quatrefoils on the sides; the underbowl has mouldings; the octagonal stem is plain and the lower base is moulded; on an octagonal plinth. The wooden cover is a modern rendering of the Jacobean design with scroll ribs on an octagonal platform; on the sides of the cover platform is the Greek palindrome "NI[f]ON ANOM HMATAMH MONA NO [f]IN.
