Blomefield (1805-1810) notes the dedication to St. Remigius and traces the rectors of the church back to 1198, but mentions no font in it. The modern font is illustrated in Knott (2007). The font consists of an octagonal basin with vertical sides decorated with blank shields inscribed in quatrefoils, a moulded undebowl chamfer and a centre ring moulding; ona plain octagonal stem and splaying lower base, also octagonal; modern polygonal plinth. Modern crown-shaped octagonal cover. The basin, though modern, is damaged, with through cracks that have been repaired. [NB: the fabric of the church goes back to Norman times but we have no information on the earlier font(s)].
