There are three entries for Newton [Flotman] [variant spellings] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/TM2198/newton-flotman/] [accessed 20 August 2019] none of which mentions cleric or church in it. Blomefield (1805-1810) writes; "The church, which is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and was rebuilt in 1385, by the lords of the manors, and the parishioners. Thomas de Bumpstede, citizen of Norwich, gave 50l. towards it. This church is 28 yards long, and 7 broad, but hath no isles; it is leaded, as is the chancel also, the south porch is tiled; it hath a square tower and two bells." Blomefield (ibid.) gives "John Blumvyle" as first recorded rector here, in 1294. The present font here is noted in Pevsner & Wilson (1999): "Octagonal, with shields in cusped fields." The entry for this church in Historic Engl;and [Listing NGR: TM2129898475] notes: "Parish church. C15 and later. [...] Rebuilt C16 porch with some original openings re-set. C15 tower-arch of 3 plain chamfered orders on semicircular responds"; no font mentioned. The Parish site [www.tasvalley.org.uk/newtonflotmanhistory.html] [accessed 12 August 2009] mentions the modern cover: "The font cover was given by the Rev. W. N. Long (rector 1917-48); the wood used comes from oaks grown on the Dunston estate, by a Letheringsett craftsman." The basin is suspiciously neat, and may have been re-tooled; the pedestal base and plinth are modern. [NB: we have no information on the font of the earlier church here].
