There are three entries for Mileham [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/TF9219/mileham/] [accessed 11 February 2014], but none mentions a church or cleric in it. Blomefield (1805-1810) writes: "The Church of Mileham is dedicated to St. John the Baptist, and consists of a nave, a north and south isle, with a chancel, all covered with lead. [...] The font is of stone, with an handsome top or covering of wood [...] 1323, John le Mareschal, presented to the rectory by Edmund Earl of Arundel." This date, 1323, appesr to be the earliest in which a church is noted in Blomefield (ibid.) The present font here is noted in The Aniquary (isssue of October 21th, 1871, p. 152): "The font is of the 15th or 16th century". Described in Pevsner & Wilson (1999): "Octagonal, Perp[endicular], with traceried stem and pointed quatrefoils against the bowl." Illustrated in Knott (2006), who mentions that there appears to be evidence of an earlier Norman church in the chancel. Some damage to the basin; raised on a narrow octagonal plinth with stepping stone; medieval glazed tiles set on the top surface of the plinth.
