Church Notes: church appears to be originally of the Perpendicular period; the dedication is given in sources alternatively as St. Peter or St. Andrew; the Church of England site [www.achurchnearyou.com/longham-st-andrew-st-peter/] [accessed 11 August 2009] has a double dedication to St. Andrew and St. Peter
There is an entry for Longham in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/TF9415/longham/] [accessed 11 February 2014], but it mentions neither church nor cleric in it. Blomefield (1805-1810) writes: "The church was a rectory [...] Robert de Kaam, and Joan his wife, John de Florence and Sibilla his wife, coheirs, released by fine to William de Wendling one acre of land, with the advowson; the said William gave it to Wendling abbey, to which it was appropriated, the church being dedicated to St. Peter." Pevsner & Wilson (1999) note: "Octagonal, C19, with panelled stem." The modern polygonal font is illustrated in Knott (2006). [NB: the church goes back to the 15th century but we have no information on the earlier font(s)].
