There are three entries for Dunham in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/XX0000/great-and-little-dunham/] [accessed 5 February 2014], neither of which mentions a church or cleric in it. Blomefield (1805-1810) notes there is no specific entry for Little Dunham/Dunham Parva in the Domesday book, and writes: "The Church is a rectory dedicated to St. Margaret", the first recorded rector of which is given as "Roger de Swanton, rector, presented by Sir John de Dunham, Knt.", in 1308, this date being the earliest reference to a church here noted in Blomefield. The present font is noted in Pevsner & Wilson (1999): "Octagonal, Perp[endicular], with shields in quatrefoils and heads on the underside." Illustrated in Knott (2007). The cusped panels are of the 'Kent type'; the heads have individualised features; the sides of the octagonal stem have cinquefoiled arches or windows. On a two-step plinth. [NB: the church dates back to the 13th-14th century, and Pevsner & Wilson (1999) report a fragment of an Anglo-Saxon cross-shaft in this church, but we have no information on the earlier font(s)]
