Font Notes:
Blomefield (1805-1810) notes: "The Church hath a low round tower and three bells; the nave and north porch are tiled, the chancel thatched, and north isle leaded", and names "Eustace" as the first recorded rector here, in the reign of Richard II [i.e., 1154-1189]. The three Domesday entries cited in Blomefield (fols., 33, 76, 299) mention neither church nor priest in them. Pevsner & Wilson (1999) note: "Font. Just the base of a Norman one." Knott (2008) calls the tub-like font a pastiche of the 1850s and does not illustrate it. The lower base is round-to-square, with large drop-leaf motifs at the angles; it is in the Norman style, but looks too neat to be original; the rest of the font is Victorian. [NB: we have no information on the font of the original church here].
