There are two entries for Hellington [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/TG3103/hellington/] [accessed 3 March 2014], neither of which mentions a church or cleric in it. Blomefield (1805-1810) writes: "The Church was dedicated to St. John Baptist [...] William occurs rector in the 4th of King John, as by a fine" [NB: since this William was the parson 'petent' in the levied fine in 1203, it could be assumed that the church existed earlier, sometime between 1086 and 1203]. Pevsner & Wilson (1999) note: "Font. C19, plain, with a panelled stem and quatrefoiled circles." Illustrated in context in Knott (2005). [NB: the church has a Norman tower, but we have no information on the earlier font(s)]
