Font Notes:
Blomefield (1805-1810) writes: "The Church is dedicated to All-Saints, and was appropriated to the priory of St. Faith of Horsham, the rectory being valued at 18 marks; and here was a vicarage valued at 6 marks.—Peter-pence 10d. ob. the present valor of the vicarage is 6l. 13s. 4d." Blomefield (ibid.) names "William de Caston" as first recorded vicar, in 1312. Font described in Pevsner & Wilson (1999): "Late C12, cut down to size. Square base to the bowl, transition to an octagon by big shapeless spurs or blobs." Noted and illustrated in Knott (2007): "Norman font set on four columns and a heavy base". The font does have now a strange look and it is much battered, cracked and generally damaged, with ill-conceived repairs; the "blobs or spurs" are at the lower corners of the basin, and the basin may have been intended originally to rest directly on a solid base rather than on the shafts it is raised on now; the tall lower base is made up of irregular stone blocks and does not improve the aesthetics of the whole. Octagonal wooden cover, flat and plain; modern.
