Font Notes:
The present baptismal font and tall wooden cover are illustrated in Knott (2005). The font is Victorian rendition of the popular Evangelists's octagonal design of the 15th century. The tall wooden cover stands at the rim on eight open colonnettes, the spire decorated with crocketed pinnacles; probably also 19th-century. The parish web site [http://www.dissparishchurch.org/history_home.htm] [accessed 24 July 2009] informs that "the font was made by local craftmen in 1857". [NB: the fabric of the church goes back to ca. 1300, but we have no information on the earlier font(s)]
