Font Notes:
Blomefield (1805-1810) writes; "Edmund de Kemseck and Petronella, his wife, granted to Emma, daughter of Robert le Moyne, a moiety of this church, or the patronage, in the 12th of Edward I [i.e., 1284] Here is no steeple, a little bell hangs without the church, at the west end. [...] To this church of All-Saints belonged two medieties; the abbot of Wendling was patron of one mediety; [...] Hugh de Polstede was patron of the other [...] Ralph de Oxford occurs rector of one mediety, and Thomas of the other, in 14th of Edward I " [i.e., 1286] The last recorded rector noted in Blomefield (ibid.), "William Smith", took over in 1742, and there is no further information on the church in this source. Lewis (1833) reported: "The church is now used as a chapel[-of-ease] to Burnham-Westgate". Knott (2005) writes: "Although Burnham Market is the largest of the Burnhams, it is not a historic parish, and in many ways it was an invention of the railway companies of the 19th century, who put one of their stations where three of the Burnhams had grown together - Burnhams Sutton, Ulph and Westgate. Sutton's church was lost in the 18th century, but those of Ulph and Westgate survived at either end of the green (Ulph's hidden from the green by houses).[...] All Saints, then, has become one of the two parish churches of Burnham Market, and is the simpler of the two [...] It is a towerless Norman church, extensively Victorianised with the replacement of virtually all the windows". The present font is illustrated in Knott (2005): octagonal, with quatrefoils on the basin sides and niches on the sides of the stem, is a modern replacement [NB: the fabric of the church goes back to the late-12th century but we have no information on the earlier font(s) of this church]. [NB: the ruins of Burnham Sutton St. Albert's are at the edge of town; the church was demolished in the 18th century; we have no information on the font from that church]
