There are two entries for Bedingham [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/TM2893/bedingham/] [accessed 28 February 2014], but neither has a mention of church or cleric in it. Blomefield (1805-1810) writes: "The Church is dedicated to St. Andrew, and was a rectory. In the 6th year of King Richard I [i.e., 1195] Benedict de Bedingham called to warrant the advowson [...] There were anciently 2 medieties [...] and there were two churches in the churchyard; one dedicated to St. Mary [...] Both the medieties were after united". The present font is described in Pevsner & Wilson (1999): "On two steps, the upper quatrefoiled. Against the stem four lions, against the bowl the signs of the Evangelists, a lion, an angel and a flower." Illustrated in Knott (2005). There are angels at the underbowl angles. The wooden cover consists of a plain octagonal platform with four wertical scroll ribs converging at the top. [NB: we have no information on the font of the ca. 1195 church here -- cf. Index entry for Bedingham No. 2 for the also disappeared font of St. Mary's]
