The Domesday entry for "Aldeburg" in Blomefield (1805-1810) reports "a church, with 12 acres [...] King Henry I. by his præispe commands that the church, all the land and men, &c. which Agnes de Belso gave to the monks of the Holy Trinity of Norwich, in Aldebi, be held by them in perpetual alms [...] The Church was dedicated to St. Mary, and appropriated by Bishop Herbert, to the priory of Norwich, being valued at 16 marks" [NB: this bishop would be Herbert de Losinga (+1119), originally bishop of Thetford but moved the see to Norwich ca. 1095]. The present font is described in Pevsner & Wilson (1999): "C15. Octagonal. Eight shafts against the stem, four shields and four flowers in cusped fields against the bowl." Described and illustrated in Knott (2005): "The 15th century font, in common with others locally, has small peasant heads projecting from beneath the bowl, and a Jacobean cover." Between the heads of the underbowl are a variety of floral motifs. The wooden cover, painted white, consists of an octagonal platform on which stand eight scrolled ribs around a pivot; round finial. [NB: we have no information on the font of the original church here].
