The Domesfield entry for "Stromessaga" mentions neither church nor cleric in this place. Blomefield (1805-1810) writes: "The Church is a rectory, dedicated to St. Peter [...] William, rector of this church, by his deed, sans date, gave to Agnes his friend (amice mee) all his tenement that he held in Strumpshaw by lay fee; and afterwards, William, son of Agnes de Strumpshaw, granted it to the monks of Norwich, with the advowson of the church. John de Thorp was rector in 1258." The church must have existed before 1240, for Blomefiled (ibid.) reports a chage of hands of "the advowson of Strumpsawe church [...] in or about the 24th of Henry III.[i.e., 1240]. Pevsner & Wilson (1997) report: "a reused piece of a C13 font of Purbeck marble" now embeded at the foot of the banner staff locker, east of the north doorway [cf. Index entry for Strumpshaw No. 2 for a later font of the 15th century]]
