Font Notes:
There are three entries for Hunworth [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/TG0635/hunworth/] [accessed 24 January 2014], but there is no mention of a church or cleric in them. Blomefield (1805-1810) writes; "The Church of Hunworth is dedicated to St. Laurence, and is a rectory [...] Rectors. 1301, William de Ingham instituted, presented by Peter de Birston." Though this is the first recorded rector, Blomefield (ibid.) mentions a land "granted to the church by Ralph Passelew, and confirmed by Pope Alexander III. in 1176", all of which suggests a church was in place here after 1086 but before 1176. Pevsner & Wilson (1997) mention an octagonal font. Noted and illustrated in Knott (2008). The octagonal basin has plain vertical sides and a moulded underbowl chamfer; raised on a plain stem, a moulded lower base and a plain plinth, all octagonal as well. The basin appears to have been re-tooled or scraped. The wooden font cover is octagonal and flat, modern. [NB: we have no information on the font from the 12th-century (?) church here].
